Buttermilk candy

Ingredients:
1 cup buttermilk
2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Dash salt
1 cup pecans

Directions:
Boil buttermilk and sugar over med heat until hard ball stage, stirring constantly
Remove form heat.
Add remaining ingredients.
Mix well.
Pour onto wax paper and let harden.
Break in pieces and store in airtight container.
Note: This recipe also came from a co-worker from USDA--Patsy Mason. It is a favorite at Christmas time.
